Shirin Kuppusamy

Wax Seal "Monkeyhouse NACHMO Choreographer"
Indian woman wearing a mustard color sweater and black leggings who is jumping in a turned-in passe position barefoot in the grass in front of a rustic concrete wall
Hi there! I am a dancer, teacher, engineer, and lifelong learner. Although by day I am a computer scientist, dance has always been my passion. I have extensive training in Kathak, Bollywood, and Contemporary with experience in Jazz, Modern, Ballet, and Hip Hop.

Movement is my most natural form of communication, and the studio is where I feel the happiest. Throughout my journey, my teachers cultivated a safe environment and helped me achieve the impossible – from finding my self identity to growing from the worst in the room to dancing alongside professional dancers. I wish to impart that same environment for other dancers through teaching and creating choreography.

As a teacher, I prioritize technical, detail-driven training alongside my core values of passion, joy, collaboration, personal wellbeing, and individual creativity. As a choreographer, my style is rooted in gesture and collaborative movement. I create with shapes and the balance of group vs. individual in mind, embracing the nuance of dance beyond technique. In all experiences, I seek to help dancers find meaning and learn from them to better myself as an educator and choreographer.
