Love - It is this feeling that is core to all of us humans and it is this that propels us towards the Supreme. To love is to be unconditional, to be giving and to let go of our ego and seek. That Supreme energy that manifests in every one of us can be realized through love alone. This is the central idea for my piece. The piece explores in an alternating fashion, the love of a mother for her child and the love of a young maiden for her beloved, both seeking the same, but in their own special way, exactly like every one of us in this world, We are seeking, in our own way, isnt it? The music composition for the short excerpt that I will be presenting is from a poem written by Sage Vyasaraya (He is a saint poet who lived in Southern India during the 15th century) and it is sung by Ranjani and Gayatri. The poem is in an Indian language called Kannada and reads like this -
Odiyalli odi gejje , beralalli oongura,
Koralalli haakitha vaijayanthi maale
Kallal andhige gejje nilada baavuli
Neelavarnane, natya madutha baro
Krishna nee begane baro
English translation
-------------------
Your hips are adorned with a beautiful belt decked with bells, your fingers dazzle with lovely rings,
With the garland of 'Vaijayanthi' flowers, please come to me.
With anklets in your feet and blue gem studded bangles in your hands,
Oh, one who is the color of the dark clouds, come dancing to me.
Krishna, you please come quickly (to me)
Odiyalli odi gejje , beralalli oongura,

And if you look back
Please try to forget all the bad times
The lonely blue and sad times
And just a little bit of rain
Just a little bit of rain
And if I look back
You know I'll remember the good times
Warm days filled with sunshine
And just a little bit of rain
Just a little bit of rain
Just a little bit of rain
Please try to forget all the bad times
The lonely blue and sad times
And just a little bit of rain
Just a little bit of rain
And if I look back

So, I was standing in the middle of this dirt path and I noticed all this soil gathered around my ankles--and I had no idea how this happened or where it was coming from--but, I tried to shake off the soil and I noticed as I was doing that, all of this ivy that had just taken over my arms. All the--
Dancer 2:
Poison Ivy?
Dancer 1:
No, not poison ivy. It was--it was friendly ivy. It was ivy that was smiling at me, and the ivy was all the way from my elbows to my finger tips. And as I reached my arms out in front of me to try to tell where that came from, I notices the clouds up above. The, the cloud were surrounded by roses, and the roses were falling from the sky and landing onto these very lush rose bushes. I started to shake off the soil from my ankles and take a couple steps forward. The bushes ended up winding into this very, very long maze that I couldn't quite see the end of, but, the more I wandered, I ended up actually stumbling across a canyon.
*Silly, dream-like electronic music*
Dancer 2:
So in front of me is this canyon. And it looked like one of those pictures of a super-bloom, a wildflower super-bloom. Like in California, have you seen those?
Dancer 1:
Yeah, I've seen a couple. The ones with lupine on the hills?
Dancer 2:
Yeah. Or maybe poppies. But, one half of the canyon was covered in orange flowers exclusively. And they looked like they were maybe orange poppies. The other half of the canyon, all the way up to the sky, was covered with blue flowers, like asters. And, the canyon was split by color, right down the center to where there was a flower right at my feet. And the flower had half orange petals on the orange side of the canyon and half blue petals on the blue side of the canyon, right at my feet.
Dancer 1:
What do you think that means?

Now you’re kind of between things
Down the hall a bit
Kind of walking, wondering
Going in and out of rooms, looking at the show
And then your in this hallway, kind of between everything
There’s a couple monitors on the wall
Things to look at, things to listen to
And again another window, another window
Looking out, into the back of the space
Into the back garden, down the leu
A kind of tree, is it a bamboo tree?
With thin leaves, kind of rustling
You can’t hear it but its there, you think about the sound
The wind blowing, the little leaves moving
How they touch each other
You think of this here in this hallway
Kind of midway between things
Not really there, not really there, not really at the entrance anymore
But not yet to the end
Kind of right in the middle
Where I am, where I'm situated
I'm in the middle here
I come out and surprise you here in the middle
I'm just offering around here
Pointing you this way, and that
And you turn, and you look out the window again
That window that always greets you, that always distracts you
That always sets your daydreaming
Between things, this window is also between things
And we just pass it for a second, not even really thinking
Not even really pausing, just keep going
You’re on your way to something
You’re curious about what’s coming
You’re looking for whats coming, the answer, toward the end here
Toward the end of the space
It keeps pulling you, towards the further end
Away from the beginning, towards the end
Down the hall a bit
Kind of walking, wondering
Going in and out of rooms, looking at the show
And then your in this hallway, kind of between everything

I felt a Funeral, in my
Brain, (340)
By Emily Dickinson
I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,
And Mourners to and fro
Kept treading - treading - till it seemed
That Sense was breaking through -
And when they all were seated,
A Service, like a Drum -
Kept beating - beating - till I thought
My mind was going numb -
And then I heard them lift a Box
And creak across my Soul
With those same Boots of Lead, again,
Then Space - began to toll,
As all the Heavens were a Bell,
And Being, but an Ear,
And I, and Silence, some strange Race,
Wrecked, solitary, here -
And then a Plank in Reason, broke,
And I dropped down, and down -
And hit a World, at every plunge,
And Finished knowing - then -
Sleep
BYU choirs, BYU Singers
The evening hangs beneath the moon
A silver thread on darken dune
With closing eyes, and resting head
I know that sleep is coming soon
Upon my pillow, safe in bed
A thousand pictures fill my head
I can not sleep my mind's aflight and yet my limbs seem made of lead
If there are noises, in the night
A frightening shadow, flickering light
As I surrender unto sleep
Where clouds of dream, give second sight
What dreams may come both dark and deep,
Of flying wings and soaring leap
As I surrender unto sleep Unto sleep
Sleep

This is What You Came For
Baby, this is what you came for
Lightning strikes every time she moves
And everybody's watching her
But she's looking at you, ooh, ooh
You, ooh, ooh, you, ooh, ooh
You, ooh, ooh, you, ooh, ooh
You, ooh, ooh
Ooh
Baby, this is what you came for
Lightning strikes every time she moves
And everybody's watching her
But she's looking at you, ooh, ooh
You, ooh, ooh, you, ooh, ooh
You, ooh, ooh, you, ooh, ooh
You, ooh, ooh
Ooh
You, ooh, ooh, you, ooh, ooh
You, ooh, ooh, you, ooh, ooh
You, ooh, ooh, you, ooh, ooh
Ooh
We go fast with the game we play
Who knows why it's gotta be this way?
We say nothing more than we need
I say "your place" when we leave
Baby, this is what you came for
Lightning strikes every time she moves
And everybody's watching her
But she's looking at you, ooh, ooh
You, ooh, ooh, you, ooh, ooh
You, ooh, ooh, you, ooh, ooh
You, ooh, ooh
Ooh
Shape of You
The club isn't the best place to find a lover
So the bar is where I go
Me and my friends at the table doing shots
Drinking fast and then we talk slow
And you come over and start up a conversation with just me
And trust me I'll give it a chance now
Take my hand, stop, put Van the Man on the jukebox
And then we start to dance, and now I'm singing like
Girl, you know I want your love
Your love was handmade for somebody like me
Come on now, follow my lead
I may be crazy, don't mind me
Say, boy, let's not talk too much
Grab on my waist and put that body on me
Come on now, follow my lead
Come, come on now, follow my lead
I'm in love with the shape of you
We push and pull like a magnet do
Although my heart is falling too
I'm in love with your body
And last night you were in my room
And now my bedsheets smell like you
Every day discovering something brand new
I'm in love with your body
Oh-I-oh-I-oh-I-oh-I
I'm in love with your body
Oh-I-oh-I-oh-I-oh-I
I'm in love with your body
Oh-I-oh-I-oh-I-oh-I
